Route 66 Day 7 - (June 21) Claremore, OK to Oklahoma City

We woke to rain on the morning of the 21st and looked outside to see a family of ducks in the parking lot. Seemed a fitting way to start the day :)

First stop of the day was in Catoosa to see the Blue Whale.

Chuck is making headway with that selfie stick.

In case you have questions about the mileage...

I went a few rungs up the ladder and said, "I'm done." My knees were having nothing to do with that particular adventure.

On the second floor, looking fore...

...and aft.

Seems to me there is something a bit fishy about that left nostril.

Yup. Thought so!

Reflecting on a fun visit before heading on to our next stop.

It's Buck Atom!

And this is just cool :)

Former Blue Dome Gas Station is now a bar. The gentleman in the parking lot told us the parking was for the bar only, but since it wasn't open yet, he was OK with us parking long enough for a couple of pictures.

Glad I had my camera ready for this one!

Giant Driller in Tulsa.

Just cool :)

Route 66 Village had lots of cool stuff...and then the rain came down harder and we moved on.

Love old gas stations!

Lots of cool murals in Sapulpa (plus, it is just fun to say).

The light post is actually painted on the building.

Just a cool old building.

Heart of 66 Museum was closed, but we got to see the giant gas pump :)

And the Google-Machine told us the Route 66 Interpretive Center in Chandler was closed...but it lied! It was open and super cool. The museum is housed in a former National Guard Armory. The docent took us into the old drill hall, which is used for events from time to time now. This is a parachute hung from the ceiling.

And it has quite a stage!

And I LOVE this old clock!

Part of the old motor pool...

Interesting note about the floor :)

OK...In to the interpretive center. There is a series of places to view videos. For some you sit in seats, for others you lay on a bed. Most stations have 2-3 videos to watch. They were very interesting and we ended up staying to watch all of them.

This is just cool :)

Next it was time for something we have both been looking forward to...going to Arcadia. Other than the view form the street, this was the first thing we saw on arrival at the Round Barn...

I know times were different, but I don't know that I would want to use this side-by-side with anyone. More info on this outhouse can be found at this site.

And, now, the barn...

The workmanship is astounding!

I had to take a close up of this latch, because it would be perfect at our new place :)

Old drugstore close to the Round Barn.

Historic Richardson Building in Arcadia.

We don't drink soda, so we didn't go in, but this is still cool.

Our first stop in Oklahoma City was the Owl Court, former hotel that now has businesses - and a food pantry with a refrigerator.

The old Western Trail Trading Post.

The triangular Milk Bottle Building was way cool.

Last stop before heading to our KOA was a few minutes at the capital building. Thankfully it was after hours and there was no one to chase us out of the "Press Only" parking lot.
