About those clothes lines...

Image
My Girl Scout roots run deep, and I put those skills to use every time we stop at a KOA and I put up a clothes line. We use our clothes lines to hang our towels and the bandanna we use to dry our feet.  I anchor one end using a lark's head knot. I use one long cord, fold it in half, and secure the folded end to one end of the bunk. Then I twist the cord. This way I can hang things without using clothes pins. Pretty cool, huh?  And I secure the other end using a taut line hitch. Here is a good video that demonstrates how to tie that. It is a very useful knot - a great one to add to your knot-tying repertoire. When we are ready to take off, I just loosen the taut line hitch a bit, slide the cord off, fold it up and store it away for the next cabin. Since they are close to the same size, I can usually reuse without having to untie it. Easy stuff - and it makes the stay so much nicer! Happy camping!

Road Trip 2017 - The big plan

Image
Here we go again! It's just over 2 weeks this time, but it beats staying home. Here is the plan...several days in Fredericksburg - good, German food, wine, and a WWII reenactment - not to mention a wonderful Dutch oven stew at the KOA. Next we head down to Corpus Christi for 4 nights. Our plans included the USS Lexington, the South Texas Botanical Gardens, and Padres Island National Seashore. The insane rain was just a bonus. Following this we will have three days on the road. First to San Angelo KOA... Then to the Amarillo KOA and the Big Texan... Then to the Pueblo South/Colorado KOA... Then we to Denver for Chuck's RMACAC Board meeting, after which we head to Bonnie's place in Golden, where we will stay while Chuck continues with his RMACAC stuff and his presentation at KOO. Then 2 nights in a straw bale cabin in Jefferson - where we will also get to tour the owners' earthship! Quick stop at Wines of Colorado for lunch on our way to our final night ...

KOA Quick Peeks

Chuck and I love to travel, and we often stay at KOAs in camping cabins (or Kamping Kabins). Since we know others who might enjoy this, I thought I would put together some general information and tips as well as individual posts related to specific KOAs.  Camping Cabin in San Angelo, TX What is a camping cabin? What am I getting myself into?  Camping cabins come in many styles these days, but the basic style is a small one-room cabin, which means you will be walking or hiking to the bathroom. The basic camping cabin comes with a full-size bed and twin bunk beds plus a small desk/table and a bench. Many have chairs, as well.  Most come with a front porch swing. Some awesome ones come with a front porch bench, as well - almost like they caught on that more than two people stay in cabins that sleep 4. General camping cabin tips... You need to bring your own linens, pillows, towels, etc. To make for a quicker set-up and break-down, you can also use ...
